Cancellations or Refunds
Upon written request, prior to commencement of any work,
permits may be cancelled and refunded to the holder. The
permit fee less 50% or a minimum of $25, will be refunded. The
balance will be retained by the City of Ferndale to defray administrative costs.
In cases where work has commenced and a request is received to
transfer a permit to another contractor, a minimum fee of $25 shall
be charged for the transfer to defray administrative costs.
Additional fee amounts will be determined by actual documented
administrative costs.
Registration of a Mechanical Contractors License with Local
Communities
Issue
Contractors have raised the issue of registering their mechanical
Licenses with Local communities. It is reported that a number of
local communities are charging an annual registration fee, even
though the license is now valid for a period of three years.
The following excerpted technical bulletin will discuss the
requirements of the Forbes Mechanical Contractors Act and the
requirements for registration of a mechanical contractors license
with local communities.
Discussion
Section 13 of the Forbes Mechanical Contractors Act, PA 192 of
1984, as amended, provides
"A contractor licensed under this act who performs work in a
governmental subdivision shall register his or her license with
the enforcing agency which issues permits and provides
inspection services of the contractor's work. The registration
shall be valid until the expiration date of the contractor's
license. Registration shall be granted by all governmental
subdivisions in this area to a contractor licensed under this
act upon payment of a fee not to exceed $15.00"
Act No. 119, PA 1997, became effective on October 10, 1997,
amending the Forbes Mechanical Contractors Act to change contractor
licenses from an annual license to a triennial licensing period.
With this change, the registration of a mechanical contractors
license is based on a 3-year period rather than the annual renewal
of a license and registration with local communities.
Conclusion
A Mechanical contractors license may be registered with a local
community for the period ofterms per the license. A fee of $15.00
may be charged by the community for the registration of a license
until the expiration date of the contractors license. The change in
the licensing period, from one (1) year to three (3) years, provides
for a registration period of three (3) years or until the expiration
date of the contractors license.
